Question 1 - What is a typical day for the both of you at parkrun?
Eventhough we go for a run with our friends on Friday evening, we still make sure we get to Presint 18 parkrun the next morning. After completing our Fajr prayer, we get ready for parkrun. We usually ensure that breakfast is ready for our kids before we leave the house.
We are extremely excited for parkrun every week as we get to meet the regulars as well as new first timers and visitors. When we first met other parkrunners for the first time, we just politely smiled at them. But now we have made long-lasting friendships with those same people.
Everyone who comes to parkrun has the same mindset, ‘running’. This mindset together with the social aspect of parkrun will live long at Presint 18 parkrun.
Question 2 - Tell us about your parkrun history.
We got to know about Presint 18 parkrun from Norbee Shireen who regularly runs at Presint 18 parkrun. We then googled parkrun, got to know more about it and the rest is history. We have never regretted signing up.
Question 3 - Why Presint 18?
We live in Bangi, about 18 minutes from Presint 18 parkrun. Hence, it is close and convenient for us. Plus, the view you get at Presint 18 parkrun is to die for!
Question 4 - What are your parkrun goals?
We want to achieve PBs every week. It’s like a unit of measurement. A measurement on how much effort and how far we have got in keeping fit and leading a healthy lifestyle. We have 7 children. Juggling kids, home-making and work isn’t easy for the both of us. All we wished for is to have extra energy and stamina to go through the day with a breeze.
Question 5 - As one of Presint 18 parkrun’s regular parkrunning couple, what you say to first time or newbie parkrunning couples?
parkrun is not a competition. Just come with the mindset of wanting to chill and have fun with your partner. And over time you will notice that parkrun couples are the most romantic parkrunners!
Question 6 - Tell us a memorable moment for the both of you at parkrun.
Achieving PBs, it’s all about competing with yourself and not others. I have had 5 PBs and Zaki has had 4 PBs thus far.
Feeling good looking at happy faces regardless of age, gender, race, religion and social status. We both feel this every week at parkrun.
The bonding between husband and wife. It isn’t easy to squeeze in ‘us time’ with 7 children hence parkrun provides us the ‘us time’ we crave for every Saturday morning. Thank you, parkrun!
Question 7 - What do you both think about volunteering at parkrun?
Volunteering at parkrun brings a sense of fulfillment as we donate our time and effort for a good cause. It is also a chance to give moral support to first timers as well as regular runners. That cheering that volunteers do at the finish line is priceless for both the runner and the volunteer. I reiterate it is truly a priceless moment for all. After all, it is a great way to start the day. We are happy that we will have the opportunity to volunteer at Presint 18 parkrun for the first time in April.
